This course will provide you with detailed training on how to plan and prepare a job, conduct operational and maintenance checks of the backhoe, transport materials using the various attachments, selecting the appropriate attachments for the task in hand, relocation of the backhoe between job sites and housekeeping activities.
All aspects of this course can be taught at our training facility in Goulburn or at your workplace – and contains both written and practical sessions covering:
- Plan and prepare for backhoe/loader operations
- Operate backhoe/loader in line with established requirements
- Load, carry and place materials to complete work activity
- Select, remove and fit attachments for a backhoe/loader
- Conduct housekeeping activities
On successful completion of this course, applicants will have the ability to demonstrate the following;
- Ability to calculate safe working loads.
- Identify hazards and apply the necessary control measures.
- Conduct before and after routine checks of the backhoe and report any defects.
- Understand the different soil types and compaction on construction sites.
- Select and fit appropriate attachments for specific jobs.
- Trenching, Backfilling, transporting and trimming tasks that can be performed by the backhoe

On successful completion:
- You will be issued a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment
- Wallet sized Photo Operators Card with the unit(s) of competency listed
- Industry knowledge and skills to operate a Backhoe/Loader
